The builder mirror above your vanity
Almost every house built in Cary through the 1990s and 2000s got the same thing above the vanity: a large frameless plate mirror, cut on site, stuck straight to the drywall with construction adhesive and held at the edges with plastic clips. It was the cheapest way to fill the wall and it dates a bathroom faster than the tile does.
Taking one down is the part people underestimate. That adhesive grips better than the paper face of the drywall does, so a mirror rarely comes away without bringing some of the wall with it. We plan for that rather than being surprised by it, and where we can we size the replacement to cover the footprint the old one left behind.

How do you remove the old builder mirror?

Large builder mirrors are usually stuck to the drywall with construction adhesive, which grips harder than the paper face of the drywall does, so some wall damage behind the mirror is common and we plan for it rather than being surprised by it. We size the replacement so it covers the footprint of the old one wherever we can.
