Inside the Beltline and outside it are two different jobs
Inside the Beltline the houses are older, the bathrooms are smaller, and the framing has had decades to settle, so openings are rarely square and tile is often set over an older substrate. That is a template job. We measure the opening at several heights and take up the variance in the wall channel and the hardware, so it does not show as a wedge of daylight down one side.
Outside the Beltline it is mostly newer subdivisions, and the work is usually an upgrade: pulling the builder framed unit and its caulked-down track and putting frameless glass in its place. Different problem, same rule. Tempered glass is made to final size and cannot be altered afterward, so it has to be right before the order is placed.
